Introduction
The Namibia Tourism Expo is held on an annual basis in Windhoek. In 1999 there were 45 exhibitors, this year’s expo attracted over 300 local and international exhibitors. The expo showcases products of local, regional and international establishments and also features cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts, food, beer and wine tasting, car shows and a host of other fun activities to attract travel enthusiasts and the general public.
The Challenge
There is no form of a communication network structure at the showgrounds. In the previous years, the temporary connectivity installed was unreliable. The network was slow and kept losing connection. Store owners became frustrated because payments would not go through. There was an option of paying with cash but would be a safety risk to consumers and retailers.
The Solution
Q-KON and a leading bank partnered up to develop a temporary & reliable satellite communication network that provided trusted communication for business Point-of-Sale solutions at the expo. Q-KON Namibia installed 4 x Starlight units for portable speed point devices at the expo. 3 x Starlight units were assembled at the entrance and 1 Starlight unit inside at the stall. Retailers were able to enjoy reliable, fast, always-on, speed point connections.
