Introduction
Maropeng – is a Setswana word that means ‘returning to the place of our origins’. In 1999 the Cradle of Humankind area was declared at World Heritage Site and is one of the most important areas in the world when it comes to understanding the story of life itself. The Maropeng visitor centre gives an overview on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years and includes restaurants and tourist retail.
The Challenge
Unfortunately, due to a lack of reliable communication centre management experienced challenges with Point-of-Sale and trading facilities and transactions. This led to damaged brand reputation and frustrated visitors as well as financial operational issues to balance cash and trading records. This was made even worst since management was under pressure to move to a cash-less environment for improved security and control.
The Solution
The Maropeng complex is a distributed geographical area with various buildings and retail trading points. To provide reliable “anywhere” connectivity a leading bank selected the satellite service from Q-KON with an integrated campus Wi-Fi and management network. Once implemented this solution enabled all shops, restaurant areas and the entrance point to have reliable and trusted speed-point services.
