From the Unconnected Market to the Target Market
When considering the size of the potential target market for LEO services, we need to keep in mind the reality that LEO satellite networks will also develop a completely new connectivity sector. That is because LEO is not intended as a replacement for mobile, fixed LTE or fibre services. Rather, it is an always-on, from-anywhere connectivity solution that addresses the full spectrum of customer use cases. To define a meaningful target market scenario for LEO satellite services it is necessary to critically review these estimates of “the unconnected Africa market” by testing them for compatibility with key features of LEO satellite services. The alignment between LEO satellite capabilities and the needs of unconnected populations is encouraging.

Broadcasting Without Boundaries: Powered by Twoobii-OneWeb LEO
Live sporting events require stable, high-speed and low-latency connectivity to support professional live streaming and production workflows. At remote venues, reliance on LTE can create challenges due to network congestion, power outages and inconsistent coverage, increasing the risk of broadcast interruptions.
To address this, SPOC, a Q-KON Channel Partner, deployed the Twoobii-OneWeb LEO service alongside the client’s existing bonding equipment. Powered by Eutelsat OneWeb and using the Hughes HL1120W ESA flat-panel terminal, the solution delivered speeds of up to 100 Mbps/20 Mbps and sub-70-millisecond latency.

Spotlight: Diversity & Versatility Within the Q-KON Team
The versatility of the Q-KON team is one of its greatest strengths, with team members able to step beyond their traditional roles and contribute where needed. A recent example is Cherize Beukes, Manager: Key Accounts, who, after 16 years with Q-KON, stepped into a temporary Project Management role for Q-KON Namibia, leading a critical Cellular Backhaul rollout within an ambitious three-week timeframe.
This highlights the depth of experience and diverse skill sets within Q-KON, where individuals can adapt, collaborate and apply their knowledge across different areas of the business. This cross-functional capability strengthens agility, resilience and knowledge-sharing, enabling Q-KON to respond effectively to new opportunities and challenges.
